The Cloptons

Sometimes I still can’t believe I get to do what I do…

Writing this I realize that I have been handed such a huge gift. When I take people’s pictures I don’t just process and deliver a product for a distant customer across the counter; I’m allowed to cross a barrier and brush the surface of learning their story and knowing them.

I “knew” of Sarah and Ryan’s story in passing and I remember when the church prayed for them as they welcomed this little boy into their lives last January, but at that time they were just another compassionate couple in the adoption process.

However, when I actually met Ryan, Sarah, and Justice as we walked in the park and scoped out softer light, I sensed a confidence in them in being known and loved by the other, and that is such a such a sweet picture of adoption, isn’t it? Adoption–is it not grafting someone in to be known and loved despite their beginnings? Whether adopted or not, we all desire to be known past bone and marrow, but down to our very soul.

Justice’s soul sored that Sunday afternoon; he did his best to smile for pictures but he would have much rather been fishing. And I can’t blame him. It was all that I could do to capture his silly expressions and vivacious dance moves. This kid loves life, and in just over a year, Sarah and Ryan have come to know and knit this little lad deeply into their hearts, and I am just so glad I got to be a part of it for just an instant.
