Sarah and Quentin
Shooting this wedding was a little bit of a reunion. Just last September I had shot Quentin's sister Tiffany's wedding, so it was such a treat to see very familiar faces amongst the bustle of the wedding morning. I had the pleasure of spending some time with Quentin and Sarah for their engagement session, and again with Sarah for her bridal session where we outran a thunderstorm near a field of horses. Not many stories begin with "this one time at band camp" (name that movie!), but this one did. These two band kids fell in love and tied the knot in class, in a sweet countryside church and a quaint downtown Great Gastby-esky ball room.
I learned that Quentin proposed to Sarah in the shadow of a beautiful light house. To continue the theme, not only did they name each table at the reception by a famous lighthouse or other historical edifices, but Quentin surprised Sarah with a vows centered on the metaphor of a lighthouse. It was sweet and personal.
I was so struck with the way that Sarah and Quentin relied on each other. Their faith in each other was so evident during their first touch. They drew so much excitement and courage from each other in that brief few moments of holding hands. The strength of this couple was really beautiful to photograph. I saw it too in Sarah when she danced with her mom, and then with the three men who had played a huge role in raising her, her two uncles and brother. It was a really touching moment to see the men and women in her life support her in that way. There were laughs and tears, all good.
My favorite time of the night was scampering down the stairs of the reception venue to photograph the couple in the clock tower during the last hour of their reception. I couldn't help but think about the Cinderella vibes of the clock striking midnight, but it was nice to know that the magic wasn't going to disappear, the slipper fit, and they were together for good. Congratulations Sarah and Quentin. We wish you all the best!
