Gabby and David
Gabby and David’s wedding day fell on the first day of fall and one week after North Carolina’s dreaded hurricane Florence. While the drive to the venue was circumvented by fallen trees and flooded highways, the location was framed in green farmland, a small-town water tower peeking over the wooded outline to the property, rolling hay bails, and dozing cows. So much of this made me feel like I was back home in Wisconsin, and the weather was just beginning to feel like fall.
These two opted to do a first look. I still remember Gabby tapping David’s shoulder, only for him to hesitate a moment, gathering some strength to turn around and see her. Once we began their portraits, they quickly fell into that easy, jovial rhythm that they share between each other.
The day progressed smoothly, as the sun peaked behind some clouds long enough for the ceremony. Friends and Family ushered the bride and groom into the barn, which was decorated and furnished with all things rustic. The reception was so much fun and unfurled naturally, at the couple’s own pace. They were serenaded/toasted by both their maids of honors and best man in a joint-mashup song to the tune of Prince of Bel Air, and got the whole crowd laughing when the played the shoe game.
The sun shining through the wooden slates provided such a dreamy feel during dinner, toasts, and cake cutting. The whole reception felt like a picnic with the kids staring at the cows through the fences, lawn games, and barbecue. Gabby and David were able to celebrate in their style, in their way with all those they loved.
After sending off the couple with ribbons, we snuck away to the horizon lined with hay. As the rusty sun dipped behind the trees, the two stole a moment to soak in each other. I was so glad to be a part of this day, and share in some of these memories with them. Congratulations you guys! We wish you the best!
