Chandler and David
As we approached Chandler’s Airbnb we were crossing our fingers as we nervously looked at the sky. Those big spongy clouds were drifting over to us and we were about to head into the thick of the mountain without a smidgeon of cell service. Despite the ominous weather, Chandler was beautiful and beaming.
I remember seeing her gorgeous red locks wrapping around the curling wand as I climbed the stairs. She and her bridesmaids and family flitted around the cabin hurriedly, packing up the vans with flowers and decor as we readied to head into the mountains.
After weaving and winding around Grayson Highlands roots, we arrived at the state park where David was getting ready. As David awaited the start of the ceremony he was able to steal some sweet moments laughing with his Grandmother and relaxing in reception shelter with his groomsmen.
As the ceremony time approached so did those grey looming clouds, but these two opted to push through, and I’m so glad they did. I can’t imagine a more romantic ambience for their vows. Even though the light sprinkling of rain dappled the wedding party’s shoulder, there was something so charming about watching the guests huddled under umbrellas and sitting against the background of the cloudy sky and the mountain slopes.
As Chandler walked through the field with her dad looking up into big opening sky I was blown away by how deep and rich the luminescent veil of mist had made the colors. The light rain held out just long enough for Chandler and David to make it official with a kiss. Just as they were recessing down the aisle, the clouds let their contents loose and we hustled to the shelters. After waiting a little time for the rain to let up, we headed higher up the mountains in hopes to find Grayson’s famous wild ponies.
As we walked through the untamed valley of tangled grass set against the deep blue mountains in the background, I was so struck by Chandler’s vibrant red hair. She was a mixture of elegance and wilderness. And David held her with so much surety and love. As they sank into the reality that they were husband and wife, the laughter and joy just came forth effortlessly.
And just then, we saw them. Our wild ponies coming out of the woods. I really felt like someone needed to pinch me. These wild and kind creatures came right up to us and even tried to sneak a bit of Chandlers bouquet and I can’t believe I got to be the one to capture these moments.
After coming down from cloud nine, we headed back to the reception for some homemade eats including some tasty vegan options. The evening unfolded with dancing, s’more-making, drone-flying, and cake-cutting. We finished out the celebration with a lavender toss and once more the four of us headed up the mountain to chase some light. The sun was defused behind the clouds and sinking fast, but the hazy, soft rays filled the frames like it was from another world. We snapped some final details shots of Chandler’s beautiful beaded dress as David sat under a tree looking on at Chandler as she made her way towards him. She slid onto his lap like it was the most familiar place she could be, and as they leaned in close as the light disappeared they were at home.
David and Chandler, honor is an understatement for what I feel about capturing this day. So thankful for you guys.
