Brittany and Luke
When I sat down with Brittany and Luke for the first time, I think it took us thirty minutes before we actually started talking about their wedding photography plans. We were all in school at the time —they were finishing up their undergraduate degrees and applying for graduate schools and I was knee-deep in writing my Master’s thesis. We commiserated on the pangs of endless researching, thesis writing, and teaching as a TA. We laughed about our choice to pursue humanities (history, Spanish and English degrees among us) and the dim realities of the job market (still totally worth it). We talked about some of our favorite bands (shoutout to Lucy Dacus and Julian Baker) and even religion and faith. We even joked about how everyone thinks you’re crazy when you decide to get married when you’re finishing up school. And as crazy as getting married when you’re young seems to the majority of our culture, it made complete sense as soon as you spend five minutes with them. They are just those kinds of people..incredibly genuine, kind souls with eyes wide open and eager to take it all, better or worse, on together.
Wedding day comes around and the atmosphere was a sauna—muggy and hot. But despite the rain and heat, Brittany and Luke were radiant. Brittany wanted more than anything to take pictures outside, and no amount of puddles were going to dissuade her (my kind of bride). We walked around downtown Raleigh outside the Cannon Room, down alley ways, up parking decks, over age-old tree roots and I don’t even remember the heat not. I just remember their contagious laughter and evident connection.
I wish you both so much joy! Congratulations!
