Three days before Ashley and Aaron’s wedding, I found myself in the ER with a sizable cut on my right hand (my camera hand) from a pumpkin puree can (another story for another time). After some stitches and a large wrap-around bandage I was sent on my way. Shooting the first wedding of the 2020 with an injury was not ideal, but what was ideal was working with some of THE kindest people you will meet. Ashley and Aaron have the most genuine affection and love for each other, the kind that just makes you smile when you’re around them.

We got to the top floor of the Well’s Fargo building and entered into the very classy and modern ballroom of City Club Raleigh. Ashley was radiant, her dark hair coiled and curled, framing her beaming smile. I gathered both her and Aaron’s affects and headed to the stair case that featured a statement amber and yellow globe chandelier. I couldn’t help but incorporate the artistic design of their venue into their detail shots.

Ashley shared some really sweet moments with her mom and sister as they buttoned her up in front of the glass windows which afforded a panoramic view of the city. I silently stood back in the corner, clicking away and listening to the women reminisce. We then slipped down stairs and around the blustery building to find Aaron facing away, waiting to see Ashley for the first time.

Although the wind was fierce and nearly took Ashley’s veil a couple of times, I absolutely loved how romantic and wild the photos of these two seeing each other for the first time turned out. Her blowing veil that wrapped around them both drew them closer and closer. Afterwards, we walked around downtown Raleigh, dodging gusts of wind, took some photos with the wedding party at the capital, and rushed back for the ceremony.

The overlook at the ceremony was stunning. The extent of Raleigh was the backdrop for Ashley and Aaron’s vows, and in front of their intimate group of friends and family they stepped on the glass and sealed it with a kiss.

After the ceremony, Ashley and Aaron and I made our way down the elevator. Before we headed outside for some golden hour photos, we were struck with the modern, futuristic-styled archway in gold and orange plates. We then headed to the nearby parking deck to catch some golden light. They cuddled, they danced, and propped up against a chain link fence. The backdrop might appear grungy, but the rough edges and dim colors set up a beautiful contrast between the common industrial scene and these beautiful souls.

As we finished up the photos, a storm began rolling in, and one of my favorite photos is of Aaron shielding Ashley from the wind. It was the sweetest moment.

The reception was a blast. They danced the hora, took some quality photo booth pictures, cut into an amazing cake (that happened to feature the famous baby Yoda), and celebrated to the fullest. I was so glad to have had the honor of documenting this whole process with Aaron and Ashley. I am so lucky to have the BEST clients.
