The Maidens

Once in awhile I get a break in in the wedding frenzy and find a change of pace. As much as I love the rush and anticipation in a wedding and the fervency of a bride and groom, there is something very rich and quiet in a newborn session. Of course, there are many ways to do newborn sessions--in a studio with little chairs, bright lights and plush pillows...but what I love is entering into the intimate space where you bring your baby home. The natural comfort of being in your home and the day to day routine of caring for this brand new life happens to be pretty beautiful in my opinion. I walk through the door and follow parents through a regular Sunday afternoon, filled with poopy diapers, bottles, crying, sleeping, burping, all of it. It's a slow day--a patient day, and that is why I love it. I can take my time seeing the inexplainable adoration coming from fresh parents. I can gradually capture the new muscles working to form expressions on this little face. I glimpse something miraculous. I peer into the "dearest freshness deep down things" of life.

Sarah and John, you guys are great, and this little man is such a gift.
